Draupadi passes away – Posted in: Draupadi

It is with great sadness that we must inform you our much loved cow Draupadi passed away in the afternoon of Thursday 3rd Jan 2019.

She hadn’t been herself recently and despite two vists from the vet he said there was nothing he could do as it was old age.

Actually that’s not entirely true – on the second visit Draupadi- named after a powerful Indian queen- decided she didn’t want to see the doctor and sent our farm manager flying across the barn with a swift head but.

That was Draupadi’s signature dish – a powerful head butt. This was however usually reserved for the young oxen who despite towering above her were kept in order by her iron hoof.

Draupadi was in fact one of our first and oldest retired cows back in 2011. Since then she has been matriarch of the non-milking part of the herd.

We will have a ceremony to mark her passing this evening. She was an amazing cow and a real character and will be sorely missed. She will always have a special place in our hearts.
