Dear Friends,

Sunset at Leicester Sanctuary – Dec13

As we come to the end of another year, we thought it would be nice to give you an insight into the story of our happy cows ...

  • June - our cows from Wales all arrived onto new land for Sanctuary – conducted a blessing ceremony
  • July - Seymour finally clear of ringworm and ready to go to Spitalfields City Farm - one of two London city farms that have adopted a non-slaughter policy

    · Bluebell (in May) and Cowslip (in September) join the milking herd
  • Autumn – new calves Harry, Henry and Dunstan are born
  • November – Champa retired to Leicester Sanctuary
  • December – winter barns put up at Leicester Sanctuary
  • Dharma and Gautam being prepared to go off to bull training school in the New Year

We would like to say a special THANK YOU to all of our volunteers both in the London area at events and those up in Leicester at the new Sanctuary, you have all been doing fantastic work.

We would like to say a THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, supporters and customers; we couldn’t do it without you.

Although a zero grazing dairy farm got the Government go-ahead in Wales, we still think that zero grazing is a crime…We will never kill a cow.

We have great plans for our Leicester experiment next year, when we start to look for low impact solutions to ox/bull welfare. This year has been a year of setting the foundations in place, next year we hope to have our first full crop of vegetables grown from our Ahimsa non-violent approach.

It has been a busy year, we will rest over the Christmas break and be back in the New Year rejuvenated, ready to do some amazing things.

Very sad to loose Bhima

Bhima, the son of Darlia was barely a month old when he caught a flu bug going through the herd at Commonwork. Though he received treatment and extra care and attention , he wasn't able to pull through. He passed away a few days before Christmas.

A friend commented that he has now crossed over the rainbow bridge ...

The other three boys are doing well.
